Soulcalibur 6 will not put an emphasis on competitiveness

Soulcalibur 6 should go in the other direction from the one chosen by other fighter series such as Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter which put an emphasis on a competitive aspect. Instead of focusing on the minority of players who play games to be the best in them, Soulcalibur 6 should, in producer Motohiro Okubo's words, have a variety of content that should interest every player.

“Our priority when developing the game first and foremost is creating something that’s fun and engaging for the player to experience. We want to make a solid game. If by making a great game there’s then a voice from the scene that says ‘hey, we could use this as a good, very competitive game,’ then that might be the trigger for us thinking about and talking about what kind of support we can offer.”

The competitive part that was present in previous sequel did not lived amongst the players after Soulcalibur V release. Many of them thought that the Soulcalibur series has never been played for the sake of a competitive aspect, but because of rich content and entertainment that it offers. Instead of waving their hands, in Bandai Namco they obviously recognized this criticism, so the upcoming Soulcalibur should still be fun to every player.

If only they had the Highlander, Connor MacLeod...

There can only be one.

Interstellar

While I suspect many won't be happy, I actually like this and think it goes closer to its core.

Unrelated to the article, but I can't wait to play as Geralt.

Shouldn't all fighting games aspire to be competitive? Tekken has a great following because it sticks to its roots. If Soul Caliber wants to survive, it should either improve on that aspect or do a complete rehaul of the game's mechanics like Mortal Kombat has throughout the years.
