Destiny 2’s next expansion, Warmind, launches May 8

Bungie will release the second expansion for Destiny 2, an update to the game titled Warmind, on May 8. The developer announced the Warmind expansion’s release date and name in a very low-key fashion — as part of an updated development roadmap that covers seasons three and four of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 season three will kick off with the release of the Warmind expansion. Bungie said Warmind “will send you to new places to meet new heroes and battle new enemies. You’ll earn new loot and master new activities.”

The developer promises to show off the expansion and reveal new details about expansion two during a stream on April 24. A single teaser image, posted above, hints at what Warmind will look like.

In season three of Destiny 2, Bungie also plans to change how it’s distributing content for Crucible, the game’s competitive multiplayer mode.

“For every player of Destiny 2, we’ll be releasing all of the new Crucible Maps being developed for Warmind into matchmaking,” Bungie said. “The same goes for the maps we released with Curse of Osiris. To keep the community in the Crucible unified, everyone will see new arenas in matchmade playlists like Quickplay, Competitive, Trials of the Nine, Iron Banner, as well as the new weekly rotators that include Rumble and Mayhem. That means more opponents for everyone. With the arrival of Private Matches, players will need to purchase each Expansion to have exclusive access to play those Crucible maps with other players in a private match.”

Bungie’s changes to Crucible and DLC appear to be in response to criticism about how it handled add-on content for Destiny 2’s first expansion, Curse of Osiris.

Here’s a look at Bungie’s updated development roadmap.

The updated development roadmap moves a couple items out from the 1.2.0 update to summer, including Faction Rallies improvements and exotic armor changes. The new development roadmap now extends into September, when season four of Destiny 2 is expected to launch, and includes the return of bounties in the sequel.

Interesting, we'll see if this is enough to curve the neverending backlash against Bungie's dlc practices.
